2021 Year in Review

Overall 2021 was a fantastic year for us financially. This is despite the ongoing COVID pandemic. We contributed $26,800 to our stock portfolio, paid off $41,045 in mortgage debt and increased our overall retirement portfolio by a whopping $ 377,472. My plan for 2022 is to just stick to my boring but consistent plan, steady eddy, more of the same. Contribute as much as possible to our stock portfolio, look for deals on another rental and keep reducing our debt by $40,000 annually. That being said I'm not expecting anywhere near the portfolio appreciation that we've seen this year. I'm basing my 2022 goals on 0% price appreciation on the rental units and a 7% increase to our stock portfolio. My goal for 2022 is to increase our net worth by a modest $80,000. ASSETS Contributions Made in 2021: $26,800 Retirement Portfolio: $696,363 (up $179,578) Rental Property #1: $130,000 (UP $25,000 in 2021 ) Rental Property #2: $255,000 (UP $50,000 in 2021) Rental Property #3: $300,000 (UP

Retirement Portfolio Net Worth - As of Dec31-2021

The goal is a retirement portfolio net worth of $1,000,000 and an annual passive income of $40,000. We are currently mortgage free but won’t be including the value of our principal residence or cottage as we have no plans to sell either. We have also omitted the value of our workplace defined benefit pension plans and  children’s RESP. On the rental unit side of the portfolio we had a vacancy in one of our units but quickly had it re-rented for 28% higher than the previous tenant was paying. It was also a stellar month for the stock market and debt reduction. In total our net worth increased a whopping $38,835 in December.  ASSETS Dec  Contributions : $2000 Retirement Portfolio: $696,353  (UP $29,664 stock market increase + 2K contribution) Rental Property #1: $130,000 (estimated selling price) Rental Property #2: $255,000 (estimated selling price) Rental Property #3: $300,000 (estimated selling price) Rental Property #4: $225,000 (estimated selling price) Total Retirement Assets: $1

We have also omitted the value of our workplace defined benefit pension plans and  children’s RESP.   I've also revised the selling price of our rental houses as prices have been skyrocketing in our area. The rental house price revision tips our retirement portfolio net worth over the 1 million dollar mark for the first time ever. It looks great on paper but our cashflow hasn't changed at all as we haven't had any vacancies for a while so most of our units are renting for well under market.
