Retirement Portfolio Net Worth - as of Feb4-2019
The goal is a retirement portfolio net worth of $1,000,000 and an annual passive income of $40,000. We are currently mortgage free but won’t be including the value of our principal residence or cottage as we have no plans to sell either. We have also omitted the value of our workplace defined benefit pension plans and our children’s RESP.
What a difference a month can make. After being crushed by the market in December we've had a fantastic January and reversed all the pain of the previous month. I had a few minor issues at two of the rental units that I was able to fix with about $200 and approximately 5 hours of my time. That being said all the units are rented, the tenants seem happy and everybody paid their rent on time. I'm currently sitting on a decent pile of cash in my saving account (which is not included in the below numbers). I'm keeping that money in reserve as February is usually quite an expensive month because the first of the tax bills are issued. Between my primary residence, cottage and 3 rental buildings we're paying over $10,000 just in taxes each year. I'm also planning to horde some cash as I'd like to re-side one of the rentals in the spring and would prefer to do it in cash.
