Retirement Portfolio Net Worth - as of Oct2-2019

The goal is a retirement portfolio net worth of $1,000,000 and an annual passive income of $40,000. We are currently mortgage free but won’t be including the value of our principal residence or cottage as we have no plans to sell either. We have also omitted the value of our workplace defined benefit pension plans and our children’s RESP.

We made a measly $150 contribution in Sept but spent around $3500 improving the rentals. Of that $3500 approx. $1200 was spent to spruce up one of the units which allowed us to increase the rent by $75 a month ($900 a year). Those renovation costs will be recovered in 16 months which I think is a pretty decent payback. The remaining $2300 was spent on the major ongoing renovation that began in August.
